Goal: turn the visual impression on slide 08b into a defensible metric and clean plot: AFR appears spread across the full MDS/simplex space while other populations are more focused.

Requirements:

  • Confirm the coordinate source and terminology: this is classical MDS/PCoA, not PCA, unless evidence says otherwise.
  • Locate the MDS coordinates and superpopulation labels used for the current slide 08b asset.
  • Evaluate at least two dispersion metrics and choose one simple talk-ready metric. Candidates: mean squared distance to superpopulation centroid in MDS space, covariance ellipse area/generalized variance, convex hull area, or distance-to-global-centroid distribution.
  • Generate a clean plot that explains the metric visually without overloading the slide.
  • State limitations: unequal sample sizes, MDS dimensionality, and whether arms/assemblies are the unit.

Deliverables:

  • Candidate dispersion plot(s) under slides/v2-review-zoom/_revision_assets/08b_superpop_dispersion/.
  • Markdown note with metric definition, interpretation, limitations, and one speaker-ready sentence.
